Divorce is a child
tear filled
window set
waiting for daddy to come home.
It is a phone ringing
answering "no,
they are busy
and cannot talk
right now.
Divorce is a weapon
with innocence slain
by the friendly fire
of bitter words
spoken in haste.
It is more,
beginning
tagged onto an end
of trust and hope
and the need to feel vulnerable again.
Divorce is the look
in the swollen eyes
of a child who cannot understand
the vacant stare
of a photograph.
